Though the DSi's inclusion of music playback functionality and a digital camera may make it seem like Nintendo is attempting to compete with other multimedia devices (particularly ones whose brand names begin with a lowercase 'i'), this really isn't the case. Atlus has gotten into the habit of releasing bonus stuff of some kind with all of its games. Legacy of Ys, The Dark Spire, and Super Robot Taisen Etc. all come with free soundtracks, and Hammerin' Hero on the PSP includes irresistible figurines for preorders. Knights in the Nightmare is no exception. The company just announced that, like its other recent DS offerings, all copies of Knights will come in an oversized box with a bundled CD soundtrack disc. Take heed, for Nintendo has dropped DSi launch trailers upon us. The trailers show off a lot of the DSi's new features, namely the SD card slot and the handheld's two cameras. Also shown are several of the DSi's applications, including the web browser, music player and photo album. What isn't shown, apart from a few DSiWare apps, is exactly how any of these features pertain to playing video games. TechRadar spoke with Nintendo of America and asked what the "i" in DSi stood for. The representative explained it is symbolic of the "subject "I" and its personal aspect," also the "two cameras gives the system its own eye on things." No matter how ridiculous that answer sounds, considering Nintendo took a word like Wii -- previously associated with male genitalia and urine -- and turned it into the best-selling console of this generation, we're totally not going to question its logic in naming things. Nintendo DSi Arrives April 5th
Breaking news... this just in. The Nintendo DSi has just received a release date. According to Nintendo's press page, the DSi will be available on American shelves on April 5, 2009. The colors available at launch will be Blue and Black. The Japanese version has been available since November 2008. Within the first two days 170,779 units were sold. Nintendo reported that 3.04 million DS units were sold in 2008. The DSi, unlike the past two DS iterations, will unfortunately drop support for the Game Boy Advance.
